Hey, I'm Ellie!

current Rice University ECE Ph.D. student and recent University of Pennsylvania ESE + CIS bachelor's graduate working on developing wirelessly powered bioelectronics

(ECE/ESE: Electrical Computer/Systems Engineering, CIS: Computer Information Systems)

Best reflected by my work itself, I create, program, build, play with circuits, and design. Driven to learn any necessary skills in order to bring a project to completion, I most enjoy working with people of different specialties at the crosshairs of numerous fields, learning as I go.

WHAT ELSE TAKES UP MY TIME?

ART + dESIGN

While some of my designs are for organization promos and marketing, many of my artistic ventures are personal, stress-relieving journeys. Art has always been the perfect brain switch to take from the most recent bug in my code or circuit design.

cooking

Cooking has more recently become an important venue for me to (1) keep connected to my culture (& explore different cultures!) in a foreign country (2) express my care for my friends and family by being able to feed/nourish them with food that makes them smile

PHOTOGRAPHY

As a child, my family documented every possible visual of our lives on our family film camera which I have now claimed as my own. Check out some of my photos by clicking on the icon above (currently in my film phase, but will work on updating the page with digital snapshots)!

A BIT (MORE) ABOUT ME

- I was born in New York but spent the majority of my childhood in Shanghai and Taiwan before moving to Dallas for high school (Taipei is my favorite city out of the four in case you're wondering)

- I am a proud youngest sister of three (if you can't think of anything to talk about with me, ask me about my sisters) & the mom of the cutest labradoodle in the world (disclaimer: biased)

- At one point in my life (~late middle school), I considered going professional in ballet! (see shoutout to Ms. Lu under Mentors)

- In my free time I like to work on short stories about my parents and grandparents (unpublished and unseen works... for now)

MENTORS

Ms. Lu for introducing me to the world of dance, for all the nights and weekends spent in her studio, under her guidance

Ms. Christine Rittenhouse at Liberty High School for a welcoming first touch of Physics (and in turn, Electrical Engineering)

Dr. Brian Ginsburg at Texas Instruments for taking me under his wing as a high school student, giving me my first brush with Electrical Engineering projects (he taught me Fourier transform!!)

Dr. Kathryn Davis at UPenn for taking me in in my first-year of college as a work-study student, letting me bounce from project to project, exploring my interests in neuroengineering

I would love to meet you! Feel free to leave me your thoughts and/or reach out for collaboration: elliecchen@gmail.com / @elliecchen
